Thought for now...

2000 B.C. - Here, eat this root. 1000 A.D. - That root is heathen. Here, say this prayer. 1850 A.D. - That prayer is superstition. Here, drink this potion. 1940 A.D. - That potion is snake oil. Here, swallow this pill. 1985 A.D. - That pill is ineffective. Here, take this antibiotic. 2000 A.D. - That antibiotic is artificial. Here, eat this root.

Responsibility and Accountability

Hi There,
I had an interesting conversation with someone about the above topic yesterday and then I received and shorter version of the attached YouTube video from someone else a little while later. After doing a bit of homework I found this full version and I wanted to share it with you.

I have had many people make comments about many of the challenges that we are facing today and they are blaming President Obama or someone else for these issues without looking at the bigger picture. IT IS TIME TO WAKE UP AND BECOME MORE AWARE! Many of the issues that we are dealing with today have taken a long time to manifest because too many people had more of their own interests at heart instead of the interests of the whole. Some of those issues may seem minor, however when you multiply them or add them up they become major problems and we are all left to deal with them!

I will start with a few simple examples and then go to the more complex challenges. It is too easy to point fingers at others and not look at us. I want to be very clear here, I am not for or against President Obama; I am for reality checks and looking at real issues instead of blaming him, or any other one person for what we are dealing with. Everyone one of us at some point in time has done something that we knew wasn’t right but we justified it. We also know people who were, or may still be, doing things that weren’t necessarily honorable.

In the particular conversation that I was referring to we were discussing Health Care Reform. The individual doesn’t want changes because they are happy with the coverage they currently have. Concern about not getting quality care, being able to get second opinions, people misusing the current systems that are in place were all part of that conversation. Someone the individual knows has a fairly successful business but chooses not to have insurance and uses federally or state funded means to get medical care.

We have too many people out there misusing many of our programs. Also included in the discussion was Illegal Immigrants going into different countries and creating greater economic and legal issues for those countries. The challenge in dealing with all of the issues is quite prominent in the United States. Illegal Immigrants and misuse of systems by many people have contributed greatly to the health care challenges we are dealing with today. Another major factor that has contributed greatly to the problems today, and has served the few rather than the many, is greed. Various aspects of the medical field, including Health Care Providers, Insurance Companies, HMOs, PPOs, medical equipment and pharmaceutical manufacturers have contributed to the problems.

At one point in time the medical field was created to truly take care of people until it became big business, enough said about that.
Now here are some of my suggestions for how we can contribute to solutions.
1. Stop making excuses to go against what we know is really right and ethical
2. Be more aware of how our actions and reactions affect other people and situations
3. Take a really good look at yourself and improve on things inside of you. Look for the good in others
4. Remember the only thing you can really change is yourself
5. A small act of kindness can work a miracle
